This is the best phone for the money. I got 3 of them and they work flawlessly. The conversations are clear no matter where in the house are you located, including the basement. This phone works OK for general use, but to use any of the advanced features you'll need to keep the 50+ page user's guide handy or memorize a bunch of numeric codes to access various features. Also of concern is the phone's ability to drain the battery in only a few days even if not used. The guide says to not leave the phone on the charger, but you have to remember to put it on the charger every 3 days or you'll find you'll be without a phone.
Another troublesome feature is the base is only expandable to 4 handsets. If one has two lines wouldn't it make sense to be able to have more than 4 handsets?
As to the base unit, I've taken to turning off the fax feature unless I know a fax is coming in to prevent the printing of junk faxes. You'd think just not loading paper would do it, but no, the fax buffers the incoming fax in memory (which is a good thing) but given I know it is a junk fax, there is no way to clear that memory save unplugging the phone -- and then when plugged back in, it prints a page to tell you what you missed.
